I’m looking to become more mobile. I just about live in my vehicle. I have an inverter to power my laptop. I want to be able to print and scan on the go. Do you use one or to you know of one.

A lot of people swear by the Canon BJC-50. You will need the optional cartridge if you want to use scanning.

I need a portable printer which can scan and print up to 8 1/2 x 11 photos for a family reunion where a pc will not be available. Is there such a printer available? Electrical outlet will be available. Is the Dell V305 a good candidate?

The Dell is a good little unit. There is also HP C4480 which is also very very good and affordable.

This is a Uniden Bearcat 30 Channel, 10 band radio scanner. I need to enter the frequency codes for my area into the scanner, I have the codes i’m just not sure how to program them to the scanner

press MANUAL & use the arrow buttons to scan through channels 1-30. When you’re on one of the channels just enter the frequency you want & press E (enter). That frequency should then be saved & you can arrow up or down to the next channel & do the same thing to enter another frequency.

To look for a signal on all of your saved frequencies just press SCAN & it’ll fip through & stop whenever there’s a signal.

We are having a family reunion and are going to be going from house to house and put all family photos on a dvd. We’re going to go to each family members house so we don’t have any issues where people don’t get their photos back. We want a GOOD portable scanner that we can carry with us. We wouldn’t be doing any editing then it would all be done at a later time once we’ve gather photos. Ideally we would want to name then right away.

I do know that those really slim and sleek portable Canon scanners don’t perform as well as they look. The way they handle color is by alternating an LED light source through red/ green/ blue. This works well for documents, but loses definition when archiving photographs. Also, it tends to leave a reddish reflection down the middle of the page. We just stepped up to the Epson V300, which isn’t top-of-the-line, but is the best scanner I’ve ever used. It’s bulkier than a true portable scanner, but the quality is well worth lugging around the power supply. Also, it comes with a built-in negative and slide scanner which works extremely well.

I am looking for a portable usb powered scanner to scan pics. Does anyone have any suggestion for any models?

I don’t know what you mean by "portable". Most scanners (and scanner-printer combos) are small enough to tuck under your arm and take with you, though they’re bigger than notebook computers. (My office does have an HP scanjet 4600, which is a small flat thing the size of a large laptop, but it’s a few years old and I don’t see anything like it on the HP website.)

If you mean by "portable" you can plug it into whatever computer is available and scan, you’re kind of out of luck. The USB connection requires a pretty involved driver installation, which means something like 20 minutes (depending on the speed of the computer) to install on a new computer.

Finally, I don’t know of any scanners which are "USB powered". The power available through a USB port isn’t enough to run a device like a scanner — you’ll still have to plug the scanner into the wall. I don’t know of any battery-powered scanners, though there might be some.
